I didn’t watch. In truth I haven’t watched one in decades.
I guess there’s something vaguely sad about it, but I just can’t bring myself to care what yet another politician has to say.
Somewhere along the line the old joke: “How can you tell when a politician is lying? – When his lips move.” has become part of my reality.
I DO pay attention. I’ll glean all I can on-line after a speech that’s of interest. I try to avoid opinion pieces and find transcripts if I can.
But to actually invest the time watching some politician… nah. I rather watch some rerun or read a book.
Maybe it’s just the notion that I’m somehow endorsing the speaker by making the effort to watch/listen that bothers me?
It happens I voted for exactly ONE person actually serving in DC. There are others I voted against though; why should I offer even a tacit endorsement suggesting I care what they have to say?
Be aware? You bet! Care? Not so much.
