I won’t claim this is my original idea, in truth I don’t remember just where I heard it. However, I have cited H. L. Mencken’s quote Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.
Watching Congress flailing around over what should be rather simple is ugly , and watching them try to add bits and pieces for this group or that is more troubling still.
Knowing that nearly half of our voting age citizens would even consider voting for someone who would only amplify the problem – while getting ran over by other countries – nears my limits.
I’m close to being soured enough to vote for Obama, and to hope that both houses of congress go hard Democratic.
In an earlier post I noted: My Country is what matters, and that’s all. Inside of that simple framework we can eventually work out the other issues, but only if that framework stays recognizable.
I suspect that that idea was merely wishful thinking! I can recognize my country in a few of my countrymen, and those are outside of DC.
Imagine no Bush to bash, no conservatives to blame? What relief there will be. Everything will be perfect – the silence of the lambs. indeed.
